First the Bugatti Veyron Vitesse and now the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, it seems like fast cars are becoming contagious. Ferrari recently announced that the F12 Berlinetta is the fastest vehicle they have ever engineered. The Berlinetta has a top speed of 211 MPH and with a 6.3 liter V12 engine supplying over 730 horsepower at 8000 rpm along with 508 lb-ft of torque you literally will miss it with a blink of an eye.

This new mind boggling record indicates that the Berlinetta has surpassed the 599 GTB Fiorano the 599 GTO, and the original 599xx racer in terms of speed. Equipped with a lightning fast seven speed dual-clutch gearbox the F12 can hoist itself from 0-60 mph in a minor 3.1 seconds. Ferrari loaded the Berlinetta with performance enhancing features such as the ESP Premium, E-Diff, F1-Trac, and high-performance ABS algorithms.

While on the topic of performance: the Berlinetta has a 30% increase in fuel economy along with a 16% decrease in CO2 emissions when packaged with a Start/Stop System. There are 2 reasons why; the first is an Aero Bridge, which sees the shape and form of the F12′s bonnet funnel air away from the top part down towards the sides of the car to increase down force. Then there’s Active Brake Cooling, which opens vanes to the cooling ducts at high operating temperatures to reduce drag. There are five outlets underneath the car, and in effect these various innovations mean that the car’s shape is unsullied by an out-sized rear spoiler.

Though Ferrari is always about performance and power it has yet to skip a beat in terms of styling. Is it just me or does the exterior somewhat resemble the 458 Italia? The design was worked on by the Pininfarina team. The vehicle is 20% lighter thanks to a new aluminum chassis.  The interior cabin is a tranquil haven where the engine roars will seemingly seem soothing.  The vehicle is capable of generating 271 pounds of down force at 124 mph because of its remarkable shape and styling.

The Berlinetta follows many of the same characteristics as its predecessor but speed is everything and Ferrari has upped the ante. More details will be released soon at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show but for now enjoy this animated video of the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta.
