Building on the potent GT-500 plant, there are many possible ways of creating more horsepower, from basic bolt ons, to upgraded superchargers, to oversized motors… This is a great article by MM&FF showing three different power stages that are possible for your GT-500:

Stage 1:

  • JLT cold-air intake
  • Single-blade throttle body
  • Supercharger and crank overdrive pulleys
  • Bassani axle-back race exhaust
  • Everything else was left completely stock.
  • Result 580 rear wheel horse power (rwhp).

Stage 2:

  • (In addition to the existing stage 1 upgrades)
  • Eaton TVS supercharger
  • Afco heat exchanger.
  • 2.6″ supercharger pulley
  • 720 cc/min injectors
  • Kenne Belle Boost-a-pump
  • Result 720 rwhp.

Stage 3:

  • 0.020″ overbore
  • 9:1 compression ratio
  • Ford GT Supercar Camshafts
  • 3.4L whipple supercharger
  • Result 800+ rwhp.

If this is what I think it is, you can see here a racer 'secret' modification. The four bolts in the center of the supercharger pulley break up the pulley into an inner sleeve and an outer ring, which allows for a quick change of supercharger gearing to change from low boost to high boost pulleys for race days, and then swap back easily back to a low boost pulley at the end of the race day. Very neat.
